13:09:35 RandallNeustaedter I will field all questions about managing pediatric illness and symptoms. Let's stay away from vaccine questions.
13:09:53 Webmama_Tina lailaca you're up first
13:10:18 KateDWJMERMJ ?
13:10:26 lailaca i am moving to Germany with my son...is there anything I should specifically bring with me
13:10:40 Webmama_Tina current chatters: lailaca ....upcoming chatters: hillyb6, KateDWJMERMJ
13:10:46 lailaca he has been healthy, is almost 5, still nurses and is not vaccinated
13:11:51 RandallNeustaedter lailaca On any trip you should give a probiotic. Jarrow makes one that does not require refrigeration. And bring a few homeopathic remedies: Belladonna for fever, Arsenicum for diarrhea, Arnica for injuries.
13:12:21 RandallNeustaedter anything else you had in mind?
13:12:51 RandallNeustaedter next
13:12:57 hillyb6 do you know about eosinophillic gastroenteristis  is there any holestic ways to treat or elimante eosinophiles, ore pedia reflux in the gi tract ?
13:13:29 Webmama_Tina current chatters: hillyb6 ....upcoming chatters: KateDWJMERMJ
13:14:01 sweetirishct ?
13:14:15 RandallNeustaedter hillyb6 This is a huge topic because there is excellent holistic pediatric treatment for reflux and these symptoms. If you search for reflux on my website www.cure-guide.com you will see some discussion of this.
13:14:31 RandallNeustaedter There is also info in my book Child Health Guide.
13:14:43 hillyb6 does it cover the eos as well
13:14:57 Webmama_Tina current chatters: hillyb6 ....upcoming chatters: KateDWJMERMJ, sweetirishct
13:14:58 hillyb6 they say the reflux is caused by the eos so normal meds arent working
13:15:19 RandallNeustaedter Holistic pediatrics usually will combine homeopathy and Chinese herbs and supplements for this.
13:15:33 hillyb6 other than diet elimantion and elemental formula the meds they are using arent helping
13:15:43 RandallNeustaedter Normal meds (acid blockers) are not appropriate for these symptoms.
13:15:48 hillyb6 can those reduce inflamtion caused by allergic response of the gi tract
13:16:06 RandallNeustaedter Acid is needed to digest food, so blocking acid production is the wrong treatment.
13:16:09 hillyb6 does your book cover that  in it  about waht to  use for these too
13:17:12 RandallNeustaedter Certainly you can give a bifidus supplement, but otherwise the treatment is prescription herbs. You need to find someone trained in this.
13:17:33 hillyb6 is there a site to locat drs like you in my area
13:17:45 RandallNeustaedter www.hpakids.org
13:17:55 hillyb6 thank you
13:17:58 RandallNeustaedter next
13:18:00 KateDWJMERMJ Are there any holistic ways that I can treat a type II enzyme defiency mitochondrial disorder?
13:18:26 RandallNeustaedter Wow, you guys do not have simple problems today.
13:18:34 KateDWJMERMJ sorry
13:18:35 dia-michaela-pg       lol
13:19:00 hillyb6 lol yah  not uncomplicated are we lol
13:19:31 RandallNeustaedter KateDWJMERMJ there are treatments for the symptoms, but there may be some limitations whenever genetic disorders underlie a condition.
13:19:48 elijahsmommy ?
13:19:52 RandallNeustaedter I would certainly seek an expert opinion from a holistic pediatrician.
13:19:57 KateDWJMERMJ ok ty
13:20:06 Webmama_Tina current chatters: KateDWJMERMJ ....upcoming chatters: sweetirishct, elijahsmommy
13:20:12 RandallNeustaedter Obviously conventional medicine is not going to have much to offer.
13:20:15 RandallNeustaedter next
13:20:20 sweetirishct hi.
13:20:30 sweetirishct mine is a much simpler question
13:20:43 RandallNeustaedter sweetirishct thank goodness
13:20:44 Gavinsmom ?
13:20:44 sweetirishct can a 2yr old exhibit environmental allergies?
13:20:51 dia-michaela-pg Is there a website or some \list\" of holistic pediatricians by area, to be recommended?"
13:21:00 Webmama_Tina current chatters: sweetirishct ....upcoming chatters: elijahsmommy, Gavinsmom
13:21:04 Webmama_Tina LOL
13:21:15 Webmama_Tina Welcome to this week's Mothering Sponsored chat! This is a moderated chat. Please make sure you read and fully understand the Moderated Chat Instructions before participating in this chat. Instructions can be found here: http://www.mommychats.com/modrules.htm ...A Friendly Reminder: Please do not post unless it is your turn to ask a question. If you have a question, please post a single \?\" and you'll be added to the queue. Have your question ready when your name is called. "
13:21:43 RandallNeustaedter sweetirishct Usually a 2 yr old will not develop allergies to inhalants, but it is possible.
13:21:54 sweetirishct i ask because DD seems to show symptoms (runny nose, reddenned eyes) around the same time as my symptoms (congested ears/sinuses)
13:21:56 RandallNeustaedter I usually look at foods first.
13:22:41 sweetirishct and my sx's usually poke their ugly heads when things (trees, etc) start to bloom
13:22:58 RandallNeustaedter sweetirishct Then I would treat it as an environmental allergen using an air filter in her room, and pediatric herbal formulas from Chinese Modular Solutions (Rx only).
13:23:26 RandallNeustaedter BTW the directory website is www.hpakids.org
13:23:44 hillyb6 ?
13:23:52 RandallNeustaedter Those are really the most effective herbal formulas for this in kids.
13:23:54 sweetirishct i am VERY new to homeo meds.. I bought the Boiron \allergy\" formula today, is this OK to try for her next time she has sx's?"
13:24:14 Webmama_Tina current chatters: sweetirishct ....upcoming chatters: elijahsmommy, Gavinsmom, hillyb6
13:24:16 RandallNeustaedter Of course homeopathy can also work like magic. But I do NOT use combination medicines.
13:24:36 RandallNeustaedter I think they tend to interfere with one another and therefore not be very effective in the long run.
13:24:45 sweetirishct is Chinese Modular Solutions  a brand name? or do I have to see a homoepath for them? (our insurance does not cover at all)
13:24:58 batsoup ?
13:25:38 RandallNeustaedter CMS is a brand. You can investigate them at www.kanherb.com. They are in the Gentle Warriors line.
13:25:41 Webmama_Tina current chatters: sweetirishct ....upcoming chatters: elijahsmommy, Gavinsmom,hillyb6, batsoup
13:25:54 RandallNeustaedter Blue Poppy also makes pediatric Chinese herbal formulas.
13:25:55 RandallNeustaedter next
13:26:01 elijahsmommy My son has eczema but also very sensitive skin. I try to watch what he eats, but he still seems to get irritated by something. Is there anythig that you would recommend as a natural cream, something to put on the skin that could help?
13:26:24 sweetirishct thanks so much!!
13:26:34 RandallNeustaedter elijahsmommy Eczema is an internal problem, and so external applications are not very effective.
13:27:04 RandallNeustaedter You could try Florasone by B&T, usually available at health food stores or online.
13:27:19 elijahsmommy is that a pill?
13:27:36 elijahsmommy well sorry...liquid for kids?
13:28:16 RandallNeustaedter Florasone is a cream for itching. Moisturizers are good (organic are best). But eczema requires constitutional treatment with homeopathy (and often herbs and acupuncture). It is easy to cure with the right treatment.
13:28:38 elijahsmommy so any advice on where I can start internally
13:28:49 elijahsmommy the right herb for kids that is a start for me
13:29:44 Webmama_Tina current chatters: elijahsmommy ....upcoming chatters: Gavinsmom,hillyb6, batsoup
13:30:03 RandallNeustaedter The treatment of eczema (and asthma) and allergies requires an individualized approach to the child. Other treatment, like Rhus-tox or Mezereum in homeopathic pills are only palliative and not curative.
13:30:10 RandallNeustaedter next.
13:30:14 Gavinsmom My son is two months and I live in the Pac Northwest.  I have been warned to give the dtap because      there have been many pertussis outbreaks here recently. I would prefer not to give this vax...what are your thoughts since he is so young?
13:30:27 Webmama_Tina current chatters: Gavinsmom ....upcoming chatters: hillyb6, batsoup
13:30:55 Gavinsmom i have read your book....excellent :)
13:31:38 RandallNeustaedter Gavinsmom A baby is usually immune to pertussis (and everything else that you have been exposed to) for 6 months. I have seen 2 month old babies with pertussis and even they can be managed successfully.
13:32:06 RandallNeustaedter Pertussis is a little scary, but holistic (naturopathic) treatment is very successful.
13:32:35 Gavinsmom ok....That is reassuring....thank you
13:32:53 Webmama_Tina current chatters: hillyb6 ....upcoming chatters: batsoup
13:33:03 RandallNeustaedter There are several good articles on treatment. On my website and Jake Fratkin has discussed the Chinese medicine treatment at the Acupuncture Today website.
13:33:04 RandallNeustaedter next
13:33:07 Webmama_Tina hilly you're up again :)
13:33:20 hillyb6 this is a two part question one i went to your site and no  drs in my area it recommended a search for the ciros in the area that treat pedia i found 3  is that as good? second is can you test pos for a milk allergy  skin test and show no other signs of

13:33:45 hillyb6 should i recommed a skin test for nuts  or just assume that its pollen only?
13:34:11 RandallNeustaedter hillyb6 Yes the ICPA pediatric chiropractors are well-trained.
13:34:59 RandallNeustaedter hillyb6 Well what symptoms does he have?
13:35:34 hillyb6 none that i know of he just had skin testing for eviromental allegys and they tested him for milk and eggs and he had 3 plus post reaction to milk
13:35:53 RandallNeustaedter hillyb6 Why did he have allergy tests?
13:35:55 hillyb6 he has excemae that he has has since a newborn  but its not flaring just the normal rough arms and legs
13:36:13 hillyb6 he has enviromental allergys ot anything that grows, molds and waht not
13:36:23 hillyb6 and asthma
13:36:28 hillyb6 small sature
13:36:46 hillyb6 kidny stones , austism spectrum, oral motor weakness, possble adhd
13:36:51 hillyb6 over all a medical mess
13:36:59 Webmama_Tina current chatters: hillyb6 ....upcoming chatters: batsoup
13:37:10 hillyb6 so we were hoping to elimiate any isseuse with allergys  before treating adhd
13:37:13 RandallNeustaedter hillyb6 OK I would definitely remove all dairy products and gluten.
13:37:20 hillyb6 gluten as well?
13:37:21 hillyb6 really
13:37:41 hillyb6 do you think milk can cause  the other devoplemental issues ?
13:37:57 babyalice ?
13:37:59 RandallNeustaedter You can get lots of information on casein/gluten free diets at the autism research institute site.
13:38:24 hillyb6 really i will check that out thanks
13:38:29 RandallNeustaedter Read the literature and judge for yourself about the autism/development issues.
13:38:40 hillyb6 i have 4 boys with silmar isseus
13:38:53 hillyb6 mydd  is the only one with out devoplemental isseus but she is the one with EOS
13:38:57 RandallNeustaedter This is a complicated case, but we teach doctors how to manage these problems.
13:39:03 Webmama_Tina current chatters: hillyb6 ....upcoming chatters: batsoup, babyalice
13:39:21 hillyb6 so a the icap chiro would be able to help me sort this out ?
13:39:31 hillyb6 they can treat kids with austism and other issues?
13:39:46 RandallNeustaedter The gut/immune system/nervous system connection is addressed by holistic methods and functional medicine treatment by DAN doctors.
13:39:58 mami2maya ?
13:40:09 Webmama_Tina current chatters: hillyb6 ....upcoming chatters: batsoup, babyalice, mami2maya
13:40:15 RandallNeustaedter I recommend you find a DAN trained doctor in your area as well as a holistic pediatrician if possible.
13:40:22 hillyb6 thank you very much
13:40:22 Webmama_Tina are there any links that you can share regarding what you are referring to, dr?
13:40:42 Webmama_Tina autism research site? or did i miss that
13:40:49 Webmama_Tina (kids going nuts here, i may have missed it)
13:41:17 RandallNeustaedter DAN = Defeat Autism Now, trained through ARI (Autism Research Institute). You can easily find them on the net.
13:41:21 RandallNeustaedter next
13:41:25 batsoup Hello! As the mother of an unvaccinated healthy 9-month-old, is there a short list of things I should stock in my \medicine\" cabinet? It's empty now except for arnica and Hyland's teething tabs, which I've only used a handful of times. "
13:41:25 KateDWJMERMJ ?
13:42:06 RandallNeustaedter In my book Child Health Guide I have a discussion of this.
13:42:41 batsoup it's on my list to buy :), thanks!
13:43:22 RandallNeustaedter Basically you want to stock emergency remedies (Arnica, Arsenicum, Belladonna, Chamomilla, Hepar, Pulsatilla, and others). Get a good book on home prescribing, mine or others listed in the references.
13:43:55 RandallNeustaedter Acute homeopathic remedies are easy to learn and will solve most common problems.
13:43:58 RandallNeustaedter next
13:44:12 batsoup that's great, thank you!
13:44:25 babyalice My 3 month old daughter hasn't had any vaccinations yet. Our ped is recommending the two meningitis shots at the top of her list for us to consider. What are your thoughts on these two shots? The haemophilus influenza B & Pneumococcus? We're in MN.
13:45:35 RandallNeustaedter babyalice I really don't want to get into the vaccine issues today. Please read my book The Vaccine Guide. It has sections on both of these vaccines that should help you make this decision.
13:45:59 RandallNeustaedter If you still have questions you can email me through my website at www.cure-guide.com
13:46:01 RandallNeustaedter next
13:46:03 mami2maya Hi, what would you recommend to treat an 8mo old baby girl with very stubborn thrush (hers and mine!)
13:46:04 babyalice Will do. Thanks much.
13:47:27 Webmama_Tina current chatters: mami2maya ....upcoming chatters: KateDWJMERMJ
13:48:08 RandallNeustaedter mami2maya You can try the homeopathic remedy Borax for her. Use grapefruit seed extract and a probiotic internally and externally.
13:48:43 RandallNeustaedter next
13:48:45 KateDWJMERMJ What treatment would you reccomend for Keratosis pilaris?
13:48:51 mami2maya thanks!
13:49:58 RandallNeustaedter KateDWJMERMJ Wow, that's a fancy name for bumpy skin.
13:50:09 KateDWJMERMJ lol i thought so too
13:50:26 RandallNeustaedter The most effective treatment is a good omega 3 supplement
13:51:07 KateDWJMERMJ ty
13:51:20 RandallNeustaedter Cod liver oil or concentrated fish oil plus A&D, and also give vitamin E.
13:51:32 RandallNeustaedter Dosages are in my book and on my website.
13:51:48 KateDWJMERMJ awesome ty :)
13:51:53 RandallNeustaedter next
13:52:06 Webmama_Tina anyone else have a last question?
13:52:10 Webmama_Tina i don't have anyone in line
13:52:15 elijahsmommy ?
13:52:16 hillyb6 i am sure i can think of one
13:52:21 Webmama_Tina go for it elijah
13:52:28 hillyb6 ?
13:52:37 elijahsmommy How can I truly know if my son has eliah...
13:52:49 elijahsmommy the typical that I have heard of where the skin gets irritated he doesnt
13:52:59 elijahsmommy I saw what you typed to Kate and wondered if I could try that
13:53:28 elijahsmommy sorry if he truly has eczema
13:54:08 RandallNeustaedter I can go into the hemophilus issues. Breastfeeding seems to be the best preventive for meningitis, and the longer they nurse the more protective.
13:54:28 RandallNeustaedter elijahsmommy If you think he has eczema, he probably does.
13:54:37 elijahsmommy No I don't
13:54:56 elijahsmommy but that is what a dr said...but he doesn't typically break out where those who have eczema does
13:55:12 RandallNeustaedter Dry rough skin in patches, or rashes in the flexures of elbows, knees, and neck, behind the ears or on the cheeks.
13:55:22 elijahsmommy was wondering if you thought it could still be a good Idea to try to omega 3, cod liver oil
13:55:42 elijahsmommy he gets it on his neck and stomach
13:55:44 elijahsmommy and back
13:55:48 RandallNeustaedter EVERY CHILD SHOULD BE TAKING AN OMEGA 3 SUPPLEMENT.
13:55:53 elijahsmommy ok
13:56:15 elijahsmommy cod liver or fish oils as well?
13:56:25 RandallNeustaedter Sounds like eczema. You could discuss it with a dermatologist.
13:56:25 Webmama_Tina current chatters: elijahsmommy  ....upcoming chatters: hillyb6
13:56:51 RandallNeustaedter Just don't use steroid creams or any conventional drug creams.
13:57:06 elijahsmommy thats what I had been doing but wanting to stop
13:57:08 elijahsmommy ok thx
13:57:09 Webmama_Tina what about aquaphor? that's what i use on my son's
13:57:20 RandallNeustaedter Yes cod liver oil. I use Carlson's because kids will take it.
13:57:26 elijahsmommy ok
13:57:29 elijahsmommy thx so much
13:57:38 RandallNeustaedter Aquaphor is just a moisurizer (not a drug).
13:57:40 Webmama_Tina its over the counter
13:57:42 elijahsmommy so don't put anything on if they have a break out?
13:57:45 Webmama_Tina ok i figured :)
13:58:10 RandallNeustaedter elijahsmommy You can put things on it. Just don't suppess it with drugs.
13:58:16 elijahsmommy ok
13:58:27 Webmama_Tina hilly you're up
13:58:36 hillyb6 i have 6 kids but my 5th  is very samll, he is 40inchs and 35lbs at 5.4yrs  would he fall under the ftt  he has always been small  but his ped wants to send him to endo for a bunch of test which i am not sure i want to do  at this point i do think he is
13:58:40 RandallNeustaedter Moisturizers are fine. Avalon Organics are especially good.
13:58:44 hillyb6 he has mild eds and hypermobilty syndrome can that contribut eo short stature and failure to grow? my sil is treating my nephew who is server with mega does of vit c and osme other things  do you now if the can helop ehler danlos kids  or not will it hur t
13:58:54 hillyb6 him
13:58:57 Webmama_Tina ok thank you dr
14:00:27 hillyb6 and can you buy your book online only or can i buy it form the local book store
14:01:07 RandallNeustaedter hillyb6 There is no reason not to do tests to find out what is going on. I don't think vit C will help this no. But there are good Chinese medicine formulas that would. Replenish Essence is an especially good CMS formula for these growth and appetite issues in kids.
14:01:22 RandallNeustaedter You can get my books online or through bookstores.
14:01:39 hillyb6 ok thanks  i think i will buy it are there any other recommend holiestic books  for parents
