13:08:18 RandallNeustaedter Yes, I'm here.
13:08:29 RandallNeustaedter Tina, can you post the topic too.
13:08:29 Webmama_Tina great!
13:08:34 Webmama_Tina ok so shoxie, go for it!
13:08:39 shoxie Hi, Doctor. I was wondering about thrush - my daughter has had it since about 7wo and she's now just over 7 months. We've tried most conventional treatments but to no avail. I've also tried babydophilus but she still has thrush.
13:08:39 Webmama_Tina yes i'll do that again
13:08:58 Webmama_Tina oh and teh comings and goings are now turned off but if you want to make it take effect you have to log off and back on again
13:08:59 shoxie Is there anything you can recommend? I have no symptoms but I'm worried that I'm passing it to her
13:09:02 Webmama_Tina sorry for the inconvenience
13:09:13 RandallNeustaedter Is she solely breastfed or on solids?
13:09:17 chat_manager upcoming chatters: shoxie, kamibug, 6stones, tina, chatmanager, faint, madison'smommy, mom2jandw,barbeeluvsshayla (if you want to be added, type a ?)
13:09:19 Webmama_Tina so if its driving you nuts getting the notices about everyone entering and exiting, just log off and right back on again
13:09:22 shoxie She's started solids about a month ago
13:09:35 shoxie and still mostly breastfeeding.
13:09:38 Webmama_Tina today's topic: Open discussion about any recurrent or persistent children's health problems, including weakened immunity to infections, allergies, asthma, eczema, diabetes, chronic headaches, and any others. The conventional pediatric care for chronic problems often amounts to using drugs that temporarily alleviate symptoms, but do nothing for the underlying problem. Holistic pediatrics addresses the imbalance that precedes chronic symptom patterns, taking an approach that relieves symptoms with natural medicines and strengthens the body to prevent recurrences.

13:09:51 hayday ?
13:10:10 RandallNeustaedter OK, then she should be on a really good probiotic. Many at the health food store are dead unfortunately.
13:10:22 chat_manager upcoming chatters:  kamibug, 6stones, tina,chatmanager, faint, madison'smommy, mom2jandw,barbeeluvsshayla (if you want to be added, type a ?)
13:10:26 shoxie Oh, really? I have the Baby Jarrodophilus I think
13:10:49 chat_manager upcoming chatters:kamibug, 6stones, tina, chatmanager, faint (if you want to be added to the cue, type a ?)
13:10:49 shoxie But it hasn't had any effect. Where can I get something better?
13:11:06 RandallNeustaedter Talk to the manager at the health food store about the most reliable brand. And she should be taking a broad spectrum probiotic formula, not just bifidus.
13:11:28 shoxie Ok, broad spectrum. I'll try that. Should I follow the dosage on the bottle?
13:11:37 debbieandjacob hello???
13:11:38 RandallNeustaedter The routine homeopathic medicine for thrush is Borax, so you may want to try that too.
13:11:51 chat_manager upcoming chatters:  kamibug, 6stones, tina, chatmanager, faint, madison'smommy, mom2jandw,barbeeluvsshayla (if you want to be added, type a ?) be faint, madison'smommy, mom2jandw,barbeeluvsshayla, hayday (if you want to be added, type a ?)
13:11:58 shoxie Ok, I will definitely try that. I just wonder if there's some underlying condition - it scares me.
13:11:59 RandallNeustaedter Otherwise constitutional homeopathic treatment would be a good idea.
13:12:00 hayday ?
13:12:16 RandallNeustaedter This is very common, so I wouldn't worry.

13:13:36 soapdiva ?
13:13:45 Kamibug_and_Kiddos he is getting attention, he's being seen by orthopedic pedi's and his regular pedi
13:13:59 RandallNeustaedter There is a very good method in Chinese medicine for strengthening bone development in children. You should see a qualified Chinese herbalist.
13:14:31 RandallNeustaedter You will not need to see them often, but someone with pediatric knowledge would be excellent at this. Orthopedists have nothing for him.
13:14:56 Kamibug_and_Kiddos thank
13:15:19 RandallNeustaedter Homeopathy can also help this if you have someone in your area.

13:16:48 greentea226 I had a question for the Dr........
13:16:51 Webmama_Tina hang in there mamas, we have a LOT of newcomers these days...so they're still learning the ropes of the moderated chats...so you'll see me posting that welcome message a lot today to help them out. :)
13:17:02 Webmama_Tina Welcome to this week's Mothering Sponsored chat! This is a moderated chat. 13:17:24 mjlsep96 ?
13:17:26 arbonnemom ?
13:17:42 RandallNeustaedter Then you need good constitutional care. Not to sound like a broken record, but Chinese medicine's ability to strengthen the immune system and constitutional homeopathy are the best treatments for candida in children.
13:18:06 RandallNeustaedter Eczema is a different story and can benefit from some good supplements as well. Especially fish oil.
13:18:24 chat_manager upcoming chatters:  tina, chatmanager, faint, madison’smommy, mom2jandw, barbeeluv, hayday, soapdiva, greentea, mjlsep, arbonnemom (if you want to be added type a ?)

13:18:43 chat_manager tina, you're up :o)
13:18:44 Webmama_Tina ok that's me!
13:18:46 Webmama_Tina yay!
13:18:54 Webmama_Tina ok doctor, my 15mo was diagnosed with eczema....

13:19:05 Webmama_Tina i'm not entirely convinced its eczema, but its definitely an allergy...
13:19:18 Webmama_Tina he's had a rash and scratching like crazy for going on 2 months now
13:19:30 Webmama_Tina the ped nurse practitioner only told me about cremes to put on him....its not really helping
13:19:56 ChelleWeezie whats this room about?
13:20:07 Webmama_Tina i know he needs holistic care so i took him to the homeopathic doc for a remedy...but i know i need to get to the root, if i can...homeopathic doc told me you'll drive yourself crazy if you try to figure out what he's allergic to""
13:20:19 Webmama_Tina what are your recommendations for allergies like this?
13:20:24 Webmama_Tina how do i figure out what's causing it?
13:20:25 RandallNeustaedter Stop the steroids. Florasone is good substitute cream that often helps.
13:20:54 Webmama_Tina and he's sleeping HORRIBLY at nite, so i'm hoping that everything will be helped if i can just figure out what he's allergic to
13:21:09 Webmama_Tina florasone, is that something i find at a place like whole foods?
13:21:38 Webmama_Tina yeah i stopped the other cremes....she just had me get over the counter stuff...it didn't seem to help....i have only been using aquaphor to keep his skin hydrated
13:21:42 RandallNeustaedter My approach is to stengthen the system with constitutional herbs, Grow and Thrive formula by Chinese Modular Solutions, available from Kan Herbs, and Fire Fighter to relieve the itching and inflammation. These are pediatric formulas.
13:22:02 Webmama_Tina ok are those actual brand names then?
13:22:09 RandallNeustaedter Moisturizers are fine, but not really going to get it better.
13:22:14 Webmama_Tina oh yes, they are, sorry, i'm juggling a baby

13:22:54 RandallNeustaedter Go to kanherb.com and you will see the products, but they are prescription only so your health care provider needs to prescribe a program for you.
13:22:58 Webmama_Tina yes, i feel like i need to do something to help him...i can only imagine how maddening this must be for him...we're all miserable...i'm trying to cut out dairy....is there a diet that is recommended for helping figure out allergies?
13:23:00 6stones ?
13:23:17 RandallNeustaedter Then individualizing the herbs for him as well.
13:23:21 Webmama_Tina ok i have an appt today so we can talk to the actual ped and get more results...
13:23:38 Webmama_Tina hopefully
13:23:47 RandallNeustaedter Wheat is usually a stressor in these kids.
13:24:07 Webmama_Tina i haven't taken wheat out yet...should i be taking one thing out at a time or everything?
13:24:57 RandallNeustaedter The only way to know about allergens is to eliminate foods for 3 weeks then reintroduce one at a time and see if the skin gets much worse. Take all the suspect foods out of the diet at the same time.
13:25:18 Webmama_Tina ok, that'll be hard, but we're going nuts over here :(
13:25:21 Webmama_Tina thank you dr!

13:25:31 chat_manager My daughter has a real problem with warts (started out with 10+ on hands and is down to 4-ish) and I was reading that it could be related to a weak immune system.  We have been working on them for 8+ months with the topical creams, etc with bandaids and she is better, but still getting new ones.  My other daughters are still bfeeding and have not gotten any.  I have an appointment with a dermatologist, but should we be treating it on an immunology level instead?  (She is my stepdaughter, so has different biological beginnings than my other two daughters, although I realize that this may not be an issue.)
13:25:44 Webmama_Tina Welcome to this week's Mothering Sponsored chat! This is a moderated chat. 13:26:33 RandallNeustaedter Warts are a virus, so building immune strength helps.
13:26:46 chat_manager upcoming chatters: faint, madison’smommy, mom2jandw, barbeeluv, hayday, soapdiva, greentea, mjlsep, arbonnemom, 6 stones (if you want to be added type a ?)
13:27:16 RandallNeustaedter Give colostrum and a mushroom formula. Your health food store can help you with those. Or any holistic, naturopathic doctor.
13:27:20 chat_manager OK, and we are vegetarians, so will neuromins that you have recommended before be sufficient?
13:27:42 RandallNeustaedter I don't know that omega-3 fats will have any effect on warts.
13:27:54 chat_manager OK, thought they were immune building
13:27:55 toshi27 ?
13:28:08 chat_manager will get on that
13:28:12 RandallNeustaedter Giving neuromins is fine, but not specific enough to solve this.
13:28:17 chat_manager ok, got it
13:28:31 RandallNeustaedter Again a constitutional homeo remedy is a good idea as well.

13:30:22 MadisonsMommy5 I've read that there are homeopathic remedies to strengthen bones....but is there anything available for teeth? My daughter is 5 and has already had
13:30:32 chat_manager oh, HELLO, thanks :o0
13:30:37 MadisonsMommy5 3 root canals, 7 cavities filled, 2 molar extractions....

13:30:56 MadisonsMommy5 I brush her teeth twice a day myself so I know it's not from not having clean teeth....
13:31:19 MadisonsMommy5 it's got to be from a deficiency somewhere
13:31:23 RandallNeustaedter Bones and teeth same issue. Chinese herbs. One of my kids had the same issue.
13:31:40 MadisonsMommy5 what remedies would you recommend specifically?
13:32:06 RandallNeustaedter I advise brushing with xylitol dissolved in water and chewing xylitol gum.
13:32:42 MadisonsMommy5 how about the flouride toothpaste the dentist gave? will that help or hurt or neither?
13:32:49 RandallNeustaedter Herbal formulas like Marrow Matters and Strengthen Kidney by Chinese Modular Solutions are appropriate.
13:33:17 RandallNeustaedter Flouride doesn't do much. Xylitol discourages the bacteria that cause decay.
13:33:29 MadisonsMommy5 could the deficiency in her teeth also  mean she may have the same deficiency in her bones?
13:33:39 chat_manager upcoming chatters: mom2jandw, barbeeluv, hayday, soapdiva, greentea, mjlsep, arbonnemom, 6 stones, toshi27 (if you want to be added type a ?)

13:35:42 greentea226 ?
13:36:30 RandallNeustaedter First of all speech delay in a 2 year old is probably normal if there are no other developmental concerns, depending on what the delay is. For example if she doesn't mimic sounds, that is not good. On my website there is an article about language delays. You can search for it.
13:36:49 RandallNeustaedter Fish oil and probiotics are good, but again not going to solve this alone.
13:37:06 RandallNeustaedter She needs form immune strengthening.
13:37:32 mom2jandw Oh, I'll look, thanks.  He has been evaluated and there are no other concerns.  Yes, I believe it must be an immune issue.
13:37:35 RandallNeustaedter Chinese medicine is very good at this, and that is why I use it so much in Children.
13:37:52 RandallNeustaedter I have good results with colostrum as well.
13:38:11 mom2jandw How do I get started/find a good chinese herbalist?  Colostrum?  How do I find that (other than giving birth, lol).  Is it the same thing?
13:38:27 RandallNeustaedter Listen to the radio shows on immunity and eczema at hpakids.org.
13:38:42 mom2jandw Thank you very much.  I will.
13:39:00 RandallNeustaedter Cows colostrum is available in powder and chewable forms from Sedona Labs and health food stores.

13:39:23 RandallNeustaedter next
13:39:25 hayday My son (age 6) has white patches on his face (only).  On looking closely, it seems like dry skin.  Do you think this may indicate a deficiency of some kind?  What can I give him orally or use topically?
13:39:46 RandallNeustaedter You can also try the AAOM website for national members.
13:39:59 chat_manager upcoming chatters: soapdiva, greentea, mjlsep, arbonnemom, 6 stones, toshi27, organicmama3, greentea(2nd Q) (if you want to be added type a ?)
13:40:48 RandallNeustaedter White patches are either a sign of less pigment in that area and tends to be more prominent in the summer months with tanning, or eczema.
13:41:25 RandallNeustaedter Topical things do not work. We have already been discussing eczema treatment. See above.
13:41:29 RandallNeustaedter next
13:41:34 soapdiva My son is 3.5 months and exclusively breasfed. He only poops every 6-8 days. I know this is common but in his case, he literally screams *all day* the day before and day of the pooping. He is gaining wait and peeing just fine.
13:41:40 soapdiva It comes out yellow, seedy and slightly pasty like peanut butter. It seems normal but is he constipated? Is there anything I can do to reduce the pain to make this easier? I give him probiotics.
13:42:03 chat_manager upcoming chatters: greentea, mjlsep, arbonnemom, 6 stones, toshi27, organicmama3, greentea(2nd Q) (if you want to be added type a ?)
13:43:01 RandallNeustaedter CMS has a pediatric formula called Easy Going that helps with constipation, and constitutional homeopathy can be helpful as well in a case like this, which sounds like a sluggish digestive tract.
13:43:36 soapdiva is that prescription?
13:43:39 RandallNeustaedter Hard stools are a completely different story.
13:44:09 RandallNeustaedter There is also the issue of bowel holding and the need to establish a regular routine for the potty.
13:44:23 RandallNeustaedter Yes prescription.

13:45:55 Webmama_Tina 15min left in the chat....lets close up the queue and see what time those questions take us to...
13:46:00 Webmama_Tina At this time, the queue is full. Questions already in line will be asked, but we cannot take anymore today. Sorry for the inconvenience.
13:46:02 RandallNeustaedter There is a good program for building the respiratory system in Chinese medicine, and we have spoken about those methods here, and in my book Child Health Guide, and on my website. This is an easy condition to treat.
13:46:53 chat_manager upcoming chatters: mjlsep, arbonnemom, 6 stones, toshi27, organicmama3 (queue closed for today)
13:46:59 RandallNeustaedter I give cod liver oil to toddlers, Carlson's lemon flavored works well. Or Nordic Naturals strawberry DHA.
13:47:15 RandallNeustaedter 250-500 mg DHA is great.
13:47:22 greentea226 thank you!!

13:47:33 mjlsep96 My 8 mo. old continues to get yeast diaper rashes, and actually my 2 1/2 yr old does too.   They go away with anti-fungal cream but they keep coming back. Probiotics don't seem to help. threelac only helped for awhile. If parasites, what can I do (nursing)
13:47:56 chat_manager upcoming chatters: arbonnemom, 6 stones, toshi27, organicmama3 (queue closed for today)
13:48:14 mjlsep96 I think I saw some actually... embarassing...  It may have been from the sewer, but could have been from me
13:48:30 RandallNeustaedter Sounds like a job for homeopathy.
13:48:36 RandallNeustaedter What do you mean saw some?
13:49:19 RandallNeustaedter Saw what?
13:49:22 mjlsep96 well, the toilet was having problems... used plunger... which worked, so I flushed, but when I looked to see afterwards there were like 3 little bugs that were moving
13:49:36 RandallNeustaedter Bugs?
13:49:45 mjlsep96 I've heard black walnut can decrease or stop supply, and wormwood is controversial...
13:50:14 mjlsep96 Baby has food intolerances too, so I don't even know if I could reallly add garlic, etc. to my diet... I'm on a VERY restricted diet
13:50:23 mjlsep96 Yes, tiny bugs
13:50:25 chat_manager upcoming chatters: arbonnemom, 6 stones, toshi27, organicmama3 (queue closed for today)
13:50:37 mjlsep96 maybe 3 or so... sorry if TMI
13:50:38 RandallNeustaedter Get them a stool test at the pediatrician if you are worried about big parasites like these.
13:51:05 RandallNeustaedter Don't start treating something like this yourself. They need holistic medical care.
13:51:09 RandallNeustaedter next
13:51:18 arbonnemom My 2 children, ages 3 and 22 months, have a good diet, take a daily multi vitamin and go to the chiropractor. Are there any other things that I can add to keep their immune systems strong through out the winter? My son 3, is asthmatic. Both breastfed babie
13:51:21 mjlsep96 Their ped is is very conventional... if he recommends medicine, should I do that?
13:52:01 RandallNeustaedter You need to read my book Child Health Guide, which discusses all of these issues in detail.
13:52:32 chat_manager upcoming chatters: 6 stones, toshi27, organicmama3 (queue closed for today)
13:52:35 RandallNeustaedter Asthma is another issue, which requires the care of a holistic pediatric practitioner.
13:53:02 RandallNeustaedter You can also search these subjects on my website.
13:53:03 RandallNeustaedter next
13:53:05 6stones My son has a congenital heart defect(aortic stenosis-valve is smaller than normal) Is there a daily supplement that you would reccommend to support his overall system?  we are a vegetarian family and he is, otherwise, a very active and healthy 7 year old.
13:53:14 arbonnemom Ok thank you!
13:53:16 6stones He doesnt require any meds for his heart
13:53:40 RandallNeustaedter Nothing different than any other child. He sounds fine.
13:53:46 6stones thankyou

13:53:55 toshi27 8 yr. old with type 1 diabetes, pursuing immune tolerance/whole foods diet/natural therapies, steadily decreasing exo. insulin, need indepth pointers towards re-establishing health, have done tons of research on-line...
13:54:23 toshi27 best further steps?
13:55:17 chat_manager upcoming chatters: organicmama3 (queue closed for today)
13:55:40 RandallNeustaedter There are several supplements including Alphalipoic acid, coq10, and chromium.
13:56:16 RandallNeustaedter This is a complex illness that requires an individualized approach as well.
13:56:17 RandallNeustaedter next
13:56:21 organicmama3 Thanks, my questions have already been discussed........
13:56:23 toshi27 i'm concerned about over-supplementing, we're giving anti-oxidants, greentea, others per michael murray
13:56:34 RandallNeustaedter not to worry
13:56:52 toshi27 indeed, it is.  conventional belief says it's incurable, and i don't believe that...
