[0/] Msg:I can sign better to her if I can carry her properly - does that
get us back on track?
Fri Aug 27 15:29:14 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:yes! what do you mean wear her properly (ooops, off track again!)
Fri Aug 27 15:29:53 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:It's so amazing to have them close so you can actually see their faces
and sign things they're showing an interest in! I really do think
babywearing and signing have gone hand in hand for us.
Fri Aug 27 15:30:16 2004:WeeHands [0/]

he knows what they mean, but cant do them. He is 14 mos
Fri Aug 27 15:32:57 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:That's fantastic that he knows a couple of signs! Understanding any
language always comes before producing it. Which signs does he use?
Fri Aug 27 15:34:13 2004:stugroupie [0/]
Msg:He understands finished, nurse, eat and water. The only one he does is
finished.
Fri Aug 27 15:34:43 2004:stugroupie [0/]
Msg:Which is much nicer than him throwing his food on the floor to tell me
he's full! LOL!
Fri Aug 27 15:34:51 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:My friend was just saying that her son (17 mos) sudden started signing
up a storm after months of her signing to him. He was signing things she
hadn't even shown him in weeks. It was like he just reached that point one
day and bingo! Very cool to see!
Fri Aug 27 15:35:18 2004:stugroupie [0/]
Msg:Thats reassuring! I keep thinking I am wasting my time!
Fri Aug 27 15:35:34 2004:PookaMama [0/]

Msg:He isn't very goot with large motor skills.
Fri Aug 27 15:36:05 2004:WeeHands [0/]

months, while his sister signed at 11 months. I thought she would sign early
since I knew so much more with the second baby HA!
Fri Aug 27 15:36:09 2004:stugroupie [0/]
Msg:OOPS! Sorry! Not good with SMALL motor skills!
Fri Aug 27 15:36:39 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:The floor??? you mean it gets worse than just smeared all over her
face, high chair and me?
Fri Aug 27 15:36:47 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:It will come! He may be a bit more of an observer as well.
Fri Aug 27 15:37:10 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:Ha! Fallon still holds food in her mouth like a chipmunk, then spits it
out an hour later. Yum.
Fri Aug 27 15:37:20 2004:stugroupie [0/]
Msg:Just wait till they learn to throw for distance!
Fri Aug 27 15:37:22 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:yep, the floor! just wait til their travelling around. you never will
imagine where you'll find cheerios!
Fri Aug 27 15:37:51 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:a new Olympic event!
Fri Aug 27 15:38:40 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:Oh - and there's lots of cool stuff about babies understanding signs,
not just signing back. I will sign to Fallon to bring a book to her Dad to
read when I've already read it 17 times that day. He's none the wiser. ;)
Gotta love it!
Fri Aug 27 15:39:08 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:useful signs/phrases for mealtime "no throwing", "bowl down", "sit

water, dog, swim

Msg:that's adorable!
Fri Aug 27 15:52:56 2004:geokelkate [0/]

with your wee one, a stuffed animal and a blanket.
Fri Aug 27 15:55:59 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:Cover the stuffed animal (or a Barbie!) with the blanket and say/sign
"Where's Barbie?" (sign "where's doll?), wait, then quickly take off the
blanket and sign/say "peekaboo". Take turns doing this with both your
kiddies!

Msg:It's just the Toronto mamas now!
Fri Aug 27 16:02:17 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:is the sign for "all done" the same as finished?
Fri Aug 27 16:02:52 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:there is another sign for "all done" in the Sign with your Baby book,
but I've always just used the sign for "finished" - the concept is the same.
Fri Aug 27 16:03:32 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:would you use that for "full" too when they get older?
Fri Aug 27 16:05:03 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:there is a different sign for full. but you also sign "finish" as if to
say you've had way too much. your facial expression would really tell the
difference between "I'm finished reading this book" and "Oh, my goodness why
did I eat so much!"
Fri Aug 27 16:08:17 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:You can see the signs for "full" and "enough" on the site:
http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm
Fri Aug 27 16:08:25 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:one quick pooka question... can your baby see your signs well in
the ergo carrier? or is it easier to have one that is forward facing for
more easier two handed signing.
Fri Aug 27 16:08:31 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:"Enough" is just about the same as full
Fri Aug 27 16:09:30 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:The sign for "all gone" is also on the above site.
Fri Aug 27 16:09:52 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:If you're baby is being carried in the front they can definately see you
sign.
Fri Aug 27 16:10:55 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:Fallon, Melanie's wee one, did sign "milk" to her the other day while
she was in the back carry position.
Fri Aug 27 16:11:36 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:that's a good site too. do you differentiate your signs for the
different grandparents? Grandma, nana, granny, grandpa, gramps etc...
Fri Aug 27 16:12:57 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:I think it would be clearer to see two handed signs if baby is in a
forward carrying position like in the Baby Trekker or on your hip, as in the
Hip Hammock. You can wear a baby in the Ergo for longer than the Hip Hammock
(or similar hip carrier)
Fri Aug 27 16:13:54 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:I also think for baby the Ergo holds their bottoms better. You have
weigh all options I guess. They can see your signs while in the Ergo, you
may have to sign to one side or the other though.
Fri Aug 27 16:14:15 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:I've got the Ergo and Moby wrap in my cart already. I don't suppose
there's a sign for the younger second wife of your father's dad, who was
"just a friend" until after he officially left your grandma sign is there?
Fri Aug 27 16:15:15 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:For two different grandmothers, you could sign "grandmother" as we
learned it in class for one, and then, use a letter for the handshape, e.g.,
"N" for the other person, using the same body space and movement. Does that
make sense?
Fri Aug 27 16:15:46 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:OMGoodness! What's her name?
Fri Aug 27 16:16:43 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:Maybe name sign - first initial (of right hand) tapped just above left
breast two times.
Fri Aug 27 16:17:39 2004:WeeHands [0/]
Msg:Sandra, I've got to run - shopping for Joshua's 4th birthday on Sunday!
Email if you have any questions during the week! Big hugs to Natasha and
have a great week!
Fri Aug 27 16:18:07 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:I'm just teasing (kind of). great suggestions. have a great week
Fri Aug 27 16:18:26 2004:WeeHands [0/]

Fri Aug 27 16:19:42 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:Ok... To answer your question... Yes, I can sign to Fallon when she's on
my back. I sign over my shoulder and she can see it fine. It's harder for
you to see their hands when they're little, but now Fallon will reach
forward so I know what she's doing.
Fri Aug 27 16:20:01 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:I'm thinking that i'll get both the Ergo and the Moby which will
give me all the flexibility I need.
Fri Aug 27 16:20:54 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:Those are two of my most frequent used carriers too. I love the Moby on
front, and the Ergo for when we're hiking around or I need to get her in and
out on my back quickly.
Fri Aug 27 16:21:52 2004:Natashasmum
[0/] Msg:Does the Moby wear well ? Natasha likes to eat everything, does it
pill or fade easily?
Fri Aug 27 16:24:09 2004:PookaMama [0/]
Msg:I haven't noticed any pilling or fading with mine, and haven't heard
anyone else complain about it either. I certainly don't expect it to hold up
through 3 kids without some sign of wear, but so far I've been impressed
with it.
Fri Aug 27 16:26:22 2004:Natashasmum
