|
12:02:31 |
Janice |
okay............ |
|
12:02:34 |
Host_Housepoet |
alright, I hear that Ariana has some
news about a bfing clinic closing |
|
12:02:38 |
kristenandmadeleine |
ladies i am lagging severely |
|
12:02:42 |
Host_Housepoet |
Ariana lets hit it |
|
12:02:52 |
Mod_ariana |
Janice do you actually want to take
this? |
|
12:03:02 |
Janice |
Okay |
|
12:03:06 |
Mod_ariana |
You're our prarie Canada queen |
|
12:03:29 |
Janice |
Across Ontario Canada, there's many
bfing and maternal health clinics being
closed |
|
12:03:48 |
kristenandmadeleine |
why are they closing? |
|
12:03:51 |
Janice |
This includes several that Dr. jack
Newman works at |
|
12:04:12 |
Janice |
It is gov't change in the way they give
budgets to hospitals |
|
12:04:47 |
Janice |
When a hospital has a deficiet it will
no longer be covered by the gov't, so
they need to cut programs |
|
12:05:15 |
Janice |
Accoding to Jack ,t he easiest programs
to cut are bfing & women's services |
|
12:05:30 |
Janice |
over 6 have closed already |
|
12:05:40 |
conchispa |
why are they the easiest? |
|
12:05:43 |
Janice |
here's an article in todays nation
newspaper |
|
12:05:48 |
Mod_ariana |
I always thought of the Canadian health
care system as pretty good about
breastfeeding? Is this not so? |
|
12:05:57 |
Janice |
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20051116/BREAST16/TPNational/?query=breastfeeding |
|
12:06:15 |
Janice |
Yes, our bfing rates are better than the
US. |
|
12:06:20 |
mwalton |
wow, so they'd rather provide more
expensive services later when the kids
end up with allergies and assundry other
sicknesses later? |
|
12:06:30 |
Janice |
These closures are specific to Ontario |
|
12:06:36 |
kristenandmadeleine |
how awful. my family services place has
helpe me soo much with breastfeeing. i
would have been lost and probably
thought of supplementing had it not been
or the lactation nurses at my hospital |
|
12:06:53 |
Janice |
Health care is decided provincially, not
federally |
|
12:07:02 |
cali4niachef |
can you give me that link again ariana? |
|
12:07:16 |
Mod_ariana |
But with changes like this Toronto BF
rates will probably drop, right? |
|
12:07:18 |
Janice |
anyhow, not only to the actual moms that
would have seen Newman lose out |
|
12:07:38 |
Janice |
but Newman's clinics were great teaching
facilities |
|
12:07:48 |
Janice |
lots of people came to watch and learn
from him |
|
12:08:11 |
Janice |
Yesterday I asked an INFACT board member
I knew |
|
12:08:22 |
Janice |
if this was really as bad as it sounds |
|
12:08:28 |
Janice |
she said yes |
|
12:08:39 |
Janice |
there is a petition we can sign |
|
12:09:02 |
Janice |
http://www.infactcanada.ca/NYGH_Breastfeeding_Clinic_Closure_Petition.htm |
|
12:09:04 |
conchispa |
do we have to be canadian to sign it? |
|
12:09:14 |
Janice |
and moms who haved been helped by Newman |
|
12:09:32 |
Janice |
can share their stories here |
|
12:09:38 |
Janice |
mailto:savetheclinic@rogers.com |
|
12:09:54 |
Janice |
No you don't have to be Canadian to sign |
|
12:10:02 |
Mod_ariana |
The petition has a space for what
country you're from |
|
12:10:03 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
one of my daughters is half canadian |
|
12:10:16 |
Janice |
I think its good to see internation
interest and support in this |
|
12:10:40 |
Janice |
just as any nurse-in or whatever, we
need to shame them into this |
|
12:10:55 |
conchispa |
i'm sorry, i closed the wrong windo, can
you post the link to the petition again
please? |
|
12:10:58 |

Thank you - I am happy that I finally
came over here |
|
12:18:29 |
kristenandmadeleine |
yeah. i was like that as a baby too.
and so was my boyfriend. i dunno she
started at 8 weeks. |
|
12:18:34 |
mwalton |
my guys is just shy of being six months
old and on a good night he's only up 4-6
times |
|
12:18:45 |

12:18:48 |

i admit that sometimes when my daughter
is driving me absolutely batty i have to
put her down for a few minutes, but it
kills me to hear her cry ... i always
pick her back up after a minute or so
... it beaks my heart when she's
screaming but sometimes i swear my
sanity is at risk |
|
12:19:31 |
mwalton |
yeah..that's one thing i really credit
NCSS with..Connor now takes one 45 min
nap/day! I'm almost giddy about it |
|
12:20:02 |
ham_bone |
it is okay that you just put her down
for a minute |
|
12:20:16 |
ham_bone |
You don't want to snap...you know? |
|
12:20:20 |
kristenandmadeleine |
apple, but that is different. if it is
getting too much, as ng as she is clean,
not hungry or scred or hurt its alright |
|
12:20:22 |
Mod_ariana |
Yes well occasionally it's put baby down
to cry or pee your pants |
|
12:20:26 |
Mod_ariana |
decisions, decisions |
|
12:20:28 |
Mod_ariana |
;) |
|
12:20:33 |
Host_Housepoet |
I have put the baby down, and walked out
side for a moment |
|
12:20:35 |
ham_bone |
pee in your pants? |
|
12:20:37 |
kittn |
apple i believe that is a totally
differnt situation |
|
12:20:39 |
Host_Housepoet |
it's the only thing that kept my sanity |
|
12:20:40 |
kristenandmadeleine |
same here housepoet |
|
12:20:43 |
ham_bone |
lol - I have peed with the baby on the
toilet |
|
12:20:44 |
Host_Housepoet |
and its totally ok |
|
12:20:45 |
Mod_ariana |
when you have to go to the bathroom and
can't take baby |
|
12:20:48 |
Host_Housepoet |
oh yes me too! |
|
12:20:48 |
kittn |
it isnt like you do it to teach her
independance |
|
12:20:49 |
conchispa |
we really could use an article by
someone clarifying what is and is NOT
CIO. so many people mistakenly think
that no CIO=baby NEVER cries. |
|
12:20:49 |
Host_Housepoet |
hahaha |
|
12:20:50 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
yeah, i know ... it makes me feel so
terrible somtimes tho |
|
12:21:00 |
kristenandmadeleine |
if you arent totally there, it will get
worse because then baby will sense that
anxiety |
|
12:21:01 |
Mod_ariana |
conchispa YES |
|
12:21:12 |
Mod_ariana |
I saw a post recently on LJ about that |
|
12:21:17 |
cali4niachef |
4-6 times! *) i gosh i don't feel so
bad about 2 or 3 times a nite than |
|
12:21:18 |
conchispa |
i'm not volunteering, btw, just making a
useful suggestion :) |
|
12:21:24 |
Mod_ariana |
someone thought if baby cried while
being held it was CIO |
|
12:21:34 |
ham_bone |
I agree |
|
12:21:34 |
kristenandmadeleine |
no, you are still consoling |
|
12:21:45 |
ham_bone |
sometimes baby just cry |
|
12:21:54 |
kristenandmadeleine |
there have been time when M was just
inconsolable and i would hold her and
she would just cry |
|
12:21:55 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
ha ... i've woken up in the middle of
the night to feed the baby before and
actually nursed her while i peed ...
couldn't stand to leave her crying and
couldn't wait to go |
|
12:21:58 |
ham_bone |
sometimes there is nothing yopu can do |
|
12:22:27 |
conchispa |
when you gotta go, you gotta go. i don't
think peeing in your pants could help
the situation |
|
12:22:28 |
Mod_ariana |
sugarcoated_poison_apple see to me the
hardest part is using the toilet paper
and washing your hands afterward |
|
12:22:54 |
Darcy |
good morning mamas. |
|
12:23:02 |
kristenandmadeleine |
see, sometimes M gets soo overtired and
will fuss, not full out cry, but be very
fussy. if i hold her its too muc
hstimulation and nursing isnt what she
wants. so i lay her down and just let
her fus. and in two minutes shes out |
|
12:23:05 |
ham_bone |
yah washing the hands is kind of hard |
|
12:23:09 |
ham_bone |
hey darcy |
|
12:23:10 |
kristenandmadeleine |
mornin darcy |
|
12:23:20 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
yeah ... *lol* i held her in my arms
one-handed to do the tp and pull my
pants up, and used waterless hand
sanitizer |
|
12:23:26 |
kristenandmadeleine |
i bring her bouncer into the bathroom
and pee |
|
12:23:47 |
kristenandmadeleine |
she can see me, i can still touch her.
but i can take care of business |
|
12:23:49 |
ham_bone |
the things we do. |
|
12:23:51 |
ham_bone |
:) |
|
12:23:54 |
Darcy |
I sit my son up in his cosleeper while I
pee. He can see the bathroom from there
and as long as I sing to him, he's fine. |

12:25:51 |
ham_bone |
it is so peaceful |
|
12:26:07 |

i do too, i just want to hold her

|
12:26:09 |
Darcy |
mamas, I need sleep advice. |
|
12:26:19 |
kittn |
my youngest is currently going through
lets have boobie all night long and
climb into moms clothes while im nursing
phase |
|
12:26:23 |
Darcy |
Joseph is waking to nurse every 90
minutes. |
|
12:26:23 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
i love her falling asleep ... she kept
her daddy and i up really late last
night |
|
12:26:25 |
ham_bone |
Me too - never let go |
|
12:26:33 |
Darcy |
It's been getting worse every night. |
|
12:26:38 |
Darcy |
I don't think I can take much more. |
|
12:26:47 |
Darcy |
I just need some f%&*@ sleep. |
|
12:26:50 |
Mod_ariana |
Darcy is he in a growth spurt? |
|
12:26:50 |
mwalton |
darcy: i'm right there with you! |
|
12:26:56 |
ham_bone |
yah growth spurt |
|
12:26:56 |
Mod_ariana |
Do you work outside the home? |
|
12:27:02 |
Darcy |
He'll be 6 months on December 5. |
|
12:27:08 |
Mod_ariana |
Growth spurt time!! |
|
12:27:10 |
Darcy |
I work in the office one morning a week. |
|
12:27:14 |
conchispa |
could definitely be growth spurt |
|
12:27:22 |
Darcy |
I hope it's a growth spurt. That would
make me so happy. |
|
12:27:49 |
ham_bone |
hey speaking of problems... |
|
12:27:53 |
Darcy |
I work at home during the day the rest
of the week. |
|
12:27:57 |
conchispa |
at around that age my daughter stopped
sleeping through the night. there were a
couple of nights i was up with her every
1-2 hrs. reverse cycling combined with
growth spurt. no fun, but i think it
passed |
|
12:28:04 |
ham_bone |
the last time my dd went to the doctor
she was only in the 25th percentile |
|
12:28:07 |
Darcy |
He's not demanding food that often
during the day. |
|
12:28:13 |
ham_bone |
the pediatrician was not concerned but
it concerns me |
|
12:28:19 |
conchispa |
oh, and i was not working outside home
at that time either, she was just too
busy crawling |
|
12:28:21 |
Darcy |
I've been trying to nurse him > every 3
hours during the day. . . |
|
12:28:32 |
Darcy |
but sometimes he doesn't even really
want to eat. |
|
12:28:33 |
kristenandmadeleine |
baaaaahhh. damn connection |
|
12:28:39 |
Darcy |
Then at night it's like foood time mama! |
|
12:28:46 |
conchispa |
sounds like reverse cycling - he is
making up at night for what he does not
get during the day |
|
12:28:47 |
Mod_ariana |
ham_bone 25% isn't in itself a problem
at all |
|
12:28:50 |
kittn |
ham is she loosing weight, or just
gaining slow? |
|
12:28:55 |
ham_bone |
so is it like comfort nursing during the
day |
|
12:28:58 |
mwalton |
darcy:i get annoyed with my ped because
she doesn't seem to take connor's lack
of sleep seriously either..i think it's
because they don't have ot get up with
them |
|
12:29:06 |
ham_bone |
not losing weigh |
|
12:29:10 |
conchispa |
i'm offering every 1-2 hrs during the
day, unless she has a really good
feeding |
|
12:29:24 |
kittn |
my middle guy has never been on a growth
chart in his life lol |
|
12:29:27 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
i think amorette is growth spurting and
teething ... she's evil. |
|
12:29:36 |
Mod_ariana |
Some kids are bigger and some are
smaller |
|
12:29:37 |
ham_bone |
meadow is teething too |
|
12:29:45 |
Mod_ariana |
it isn't a growth contest. ;) |
|
12:29:51 |
kristenandmadeleine |
so i madeleine |
|
12:29:58 |
kittn |
how old is dd ham? |
|
12:30:03 |
ham_bone |
I don't know - it just kind of scared me
because I want to make sure she is
growing properly |
|
12:30:06 |
Darcy |
Conchispa - is baby sleeping more at
night now? Do you think it would help
if I tried to feed more like every 90
minutes during the day? |
|
12:30:09 |
ham_bone |
4.5 months |
|
12:30:19 |
mwalton |
i hope it's teething..that would at
least give me a reason..but he's been
drooling and chewing for months now..so
i really don't know |
|
12:30:20 |
Darcy |
Ham_bone - what's the diaper situation? |
|
12:30:27 |
ham_bone |
normal - if not more |
|
12:30:32 |
conchispa |
yes, she is sleeping more, gives me 3-4
hr stretches |
|
12:30:34 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
she bites, too ... when she's pulling
off, she gets me with her teeth
sometimes, i involuntarily scream, and
she starts crying too |
|
12:30:37 |
kristenandmadeleine |
okay i gotta ask you all a question |
|
12:30:43 |
Host_Housepoet |
shoot |
|
12:30:49 |
ham_bone |
ask away |
|
12:30:50 |
Mod_ariana |
ham_bone There's nothing wrong with
25%. Any more than there is with the
75% |
|
12:30:52 |
ham_bone |
what is it |
|
12:31:08 |
kittn |
the census seems to be that as long as
they arent loosing weight , seem alert ,
and wet enough diapers shes probably
fine |
|
12:31:18 |
ham_bone |
I guess I just need reassurance. .. you
never want to hear that your child is
lagging in any way |
|
12:31:33 |
conchispa |
darcy, i've heard from many moms that
their babies started waking up a lot
more often at 6 months, it's a phase it
seems and will pass |
|
12:31:34 |
ham_bone |
and she eats all the time |
|
12:31:43 |
kittn |
ham_bone is she on target as far as her
development? |
|
12:31:51 |
Darcy |
Ham_bone - of course not, but growth
charts are just statistics and they're
not really a good measure of normal"." |
|
12:31:51 |
ham_bone |
yes |
|
12:32:03 |
Darcy |
They're just a very very rough set of
numbers. |
|
12:32:16 |
ham_bone |
you gals are making me feel much better |
|
12:32:36 |
conchispa |
if everyone was in the 90th percentile,
there would be no curve. someone's got
to be smaller |
|
12:32:38 |
kittn |
Ham_bone. try not to worry too much, it
does all balance out.it sounds like shes
doing fine. maybe shes just petite? |
|
12:32:39 |
Host_Housepoet |
it's hard being a first time mom |
|
12:32:49 |
ham_bone |
YES IT IS |
|
12:32:58 |
Host_Housepoet |
ham_bone were you a small baby? was your
husband? your mother, his mother? |
|
12:33:01 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
the 25th percentile has to come from
somewhere after all ... normal, healthy
babies who just happen to be more petite |
|
12:33:02 |
Darcy |
My baby was off the charts in the other
direction for a while. |
|
12:33:02 |
Host_Housepoet |
it's all relative |
|
12:33:04 |
mwalton |
sides she's a girl if she stays that way
some day she'll be happy to be petite |
|
12:33:05 |
ham_bone |
Maybe...I |
|
12:33:14 |
Host_Housepoet |
they make petite fuzzi buns for a
reason! ;) |
|
12:33:23 |
Host_Housepoet |
oh your baby is the awesome tho darcy |
|
12:33:41 |
ham_bone |
I was a small baby but my mom smoked
with me |
|
12:33:50 |
ham_bone |
who knows about my husband - his mom is
kind of whacked |
|
12:33:58 |
conchispa |
my ped warned" me that my baby may fall
off the charts when she is older than 3
months (in case I was worried about it).
just throw the stupid chart out. burn it
:)" |
|
12:34:04 |
kristenandmadeleine |
omg, my connection is going nuts |
|
12:34:14 |

12:34:18 |

12:34:20 |
mwalton |

Good idea - burn the charts |
|
12:34:54 |
kristenandmadeleine |
okay, now im generally curious. where
did this whole DD DS DH come from? I've
never heard of it till joining the

12:35:37 |
Host_Housepoet |
page 143 to 144 of the Le Leche League's
The Woman Art of Breastfeeding" states:" |
|
12:35:43 |
Host_Housepoet |
The Baby Who is PLEASENTLY PLUMP |
|
12:35:49 |
Host_Housepoet |
If your breastfed baby is a round little
fatty, some may say he's gaining weight
too much. While he may weigh more than
the average shown on the doctor's
charts, the baby on human milk alone
will not be overweight. A totally
breastfed baby who is overweight" is not
necessarily overfat or obese. Still in a
weight-conscious world, even baby fat is
suspect and the mother of a plump, fully
breastfed baby may be told that her
child should be put on a diet. Heredity
plays a definie role in determining a
child's growth pattern.........There are
hazards in limiting growth by putting a
baby on a diet. The young child is a
dynamic body builder, producing cells of
all kinds, brain and nerv cells as well
as fat cells. searchers have observed
that the flesh of a breastfed baby is
firmer than that of a formula-fed
infant. THERE ARE NO EMPTY CALORIES IN
HUMAN MILK, AS THERE ARE IN HIGHLY
PROCESSED FOODS." |
|
12:35:54 |
Host_Housepoet |
It must be remembered here that fat
accummulated in the relitively inactive
pre-toddler state is preparatory for the
highly active time when the busy toddler
hardly has time to eat. It is not inlike
the extra weight that a woman puts on
during pregnancy in preperation for the
extra demands of motherhood. We have
found that by age two or three the
heacyweights amoung the tiny tots
usually slim down beautifully."

cali4niachef |
he takes my whole nipple in far back in

Do you have some Lansinoh? You have a
growth spurt coming up, and it would be
great if it healed up before then. |

yeah i've been applying the lansinoh a
few times a day along with some milk |

12:42:20 |

not taking the whole nipple in |

cali4niachef |

12:44:06 |
sugarcoated_poison_apple |
i have a question for the cloth
diapering mommies ... i've always used
disposables, partly due to circumstances
(not having a washer available every
day) and partly due to lack of funds for
the supplies ... i desperately want to
switch when i have the money (i'm on
unemployment right now and can't swing
it yet) but i'm wondering how much i
should look at saving up to get the
necessary things. amorette will probably
be a year old by the time i can manage
to get it together ... |

is Chinese/Indian prefolds with bummis
super whisper wrap covers and snappis
diaper fasteners. |

There was a amazing turnout at the City
Council Meeting last night, a number of
mothers and a father spoke. The Mayor
then briefly addressed Gretchen, asking
her to get with the City Manager today.
It appears that they are working on an
ordinance, they are consulting with
city attorneys in other cities, we gave
them a packet of information including
recommended language for ordinances. I
was interviewed by someone from
KAFF-FM, our big country radio station,
I didn't hear it this morning but the
story ran this morning and will run
again at noon and 5. I was also
interviewed by KNAU, our public radio
station yesterday, we filled almost
half the seats in the room our city
council meets in. I felt so safe and
supported speaking to the council with
a room full of mothers, fathers and
children behind me. I think we did
great. Ruth |

Might be a stupid question but I have to
ask - is it possible that it is a
scratch from the babies claws? |
|
12:54:55 |
cali4niachef |
who knows, could be |
|
12:55:03 |
TurboClaudia |
lol but not really, hambone... |
|
12:55:06 |
cali4niachef |
but the skin is broken so it doesn't
seem like a scratch |

12:55:16 |
Darcy |
Maybe lay off that breast with the pump
for a while. |
|
12:55:26 |
Darcy |
Nurse more on that side and pump from
the other side. . . |
