13:05:03 mamasara Chat for Feeding Your Family on a Budget: What's for Thanksgiving Dinner?
13:06:55 kaylasmama Good morning! I'm here for a bit, but will have to help my wee one to sleep in a little while...
13:09:09 kaylasmama anyone here?
13:11:58 kaylasmama hellooooooooooo
13:14:39 kaylasmama well, I need to help Kayla to sleep. I'll be back to see if anyone's here in about 15 minutes or soo....
13:16:41 mamasara Hey I'm sorry got distracted with little guy. I'm here if you want to talk.
13:27:38 Hockeymom2313 Hi
13:36:45 mamasara Hi
13:36:56 mamasara I keep missing you ladies
13:37:19 mamasara *doorbell*
13:38:21 txchipsie Hello?
13:39:05 mamasara Hi
13:39:10 mamasara Glad to have you here
13:39:18 mamasara I keep missing everyone
13:39:57 mamasara This chat is normally well organized but since this week is Thanksgiving, I thought I'd just open the chat for discussion on Thanksgiving preparations and Recipes
13:40:29 mamasara :whistling:
13:40:47 mamasara *woohoo*
13:41:31 txchipsie LOL...  well. I'm quitting my in-home business so our income is about to take a hit and if I can cut corners with groceries that would be best...
13:42:10 txchipsie Though we live near extended family and I'm pretty low on the totem pole so Thanksgiving won't be at my place, so that's not as much an issue for me.
13:42:11 mamasara cool, I have a coupon train if you'd like to join that. Basically we just pass along an envelope of coupons
13:42:33 mamasara we take what we need and pass on what we don't need
13:43:02 mamasara Also, if you talk with ourwiefamily she is a mama of 6 (almost 7) and has some excellent ideas on saving funds.
13:43:02 txchipsie OMG, it would die with me.  I'm really (really) not organized enough for coupons...
13:43:11 mamasara LOL
13:43:31 mamasara Do you know your Weekly Food budget?
13:43:51 txchipsie LOL  in a word?  no.  we go to the store and get stuff.
13:43:57 mamasara Oh, what business where you with if you don't mind me asking?
13:44:13 txchipsie I was a Passion Parties consultant.  ;-)  Yes, it is what it sounds like.
13:44:27 mamasara Okay, have you heard of Gourmet to Go?
13:44:31 txchipsie No
13:44:46 mamasara I don't work for them any longer so I'm not trying to sell you anything here okay
13:45:08 mamasara Just wanted to let you know they are a Mix Prep company Like mixes in a jar but in bags...
13:45:31 mamasara Sign up is free and last I was working they offered a 45% discount to reps
13:45:48 mamasara So lets say a mix was $4.00 you could buy for nearly $2.00
13:46:00 txchipsie The problem was not the business...  I loved what I did...  it's the current audit by the IRS that has me re-thinking this whole thing.
13:46:10 mamasara Might be something to look into. Sign up is free they do have a 1/4 minimun of $100 though
13:46:27 mamasara Audit? what for?
13:46:34 mamasara It's crazy...
13:47:03 txchipsie random it seems...  but I'm really not organized and it's hell trying to dig up every cancelled check for every bill I paid that had anything to do with the business and the milage is making me nuts.
13:47:07 mamasara Oh, just thought since you're trying to save funds that maybe this could be a win win thing for you - save money on food and earn some extra cash
13:47:29 mamasara Milage is a bummer...
13:47:51 mamasara Organization is key and if you do not have a receipt it is as though it never occured
13:48:22 txchipsie Just not a hastle that was worth it since I was just in it for the fun...  I had no asperations to be a super-diamond-executive director or anything and that's pretty much the only way this would be worth it, ya know?
13:48:50 mamasara You have your customers locally? You might just try visiting them and keeping track of miles... then look in your records for the dates of the parties and calculate it that way.
13:48:57 txchipsie Anyway, gorceries...
13:48:58 txchipsie LOL
13:49:03 mamasara Yup
13:49:04 txchipsie groceries even
13:49:21 mamasara sorry got over excited about that...  *uhoh*
13:49:36 mamasara Okay, what does your family like?
13:49:53 txchipsie *laughter*
13:50:14 txchipsie hmm...  I love to cook, but my kids can be a little picky...
13:50:15 mamasara Do you go out to eat a lot or are most your meals homemade?
13:50:42 txchipsie We're really moving toward eating at home more, and we've been doing a great job...  but it was expensive.
13:50:51 mamasara You could slow cook some meals, saves on time and money...
13:50:58 txchipsie of course, eating out is more expensive yet so...
13:51:07 mamasara how large is your family?
13:51:08 txchipsie LOVE the crock-pot...
13:51:16 txchipsie 1 DH and 2 1/2 kids
13:51:17 txchipsie lol
13:51:23 mamasara lol
13:51:42 mamasara do the kids take lunch to school?
13:51:56 mamasara not the 1/2 one lol
13:51:58 txchipsie no school...  babies here.
13:52:09 txchipsie mostly lunch at mom's"  lol"
13:52:10 mamasara wow... all babies nursing?
13:52:39 txchipsie Actually, no, the 4 1/2 year old is weaned... recently.  But the 2 1/2yo is dedicated though.
13:52:41 mamasara That saves some money... Do you belong to a co-op? for produce?
13:53:02 txchipsie I'd LOVE that...  or how it sounds in my head...  what is it?
13:53:16 txchipsie a box of fruit/vegs once a month or something?
13:53:28 mamasara Yeah like those dedicated nurslings :bf
13:53:37 mamasara Yep exactly the way it sounds
13:54:00 mamasara depends on where you live you could get them for $15/week or do it bi-weekly or 1/month
13:54:38 txchipsie Is there a website or something?  I looked into a co-op before but it was all organic (I'm not picky) and mostly bulk stuff that I don't use regularly enough to make it worth it.
13:54:43 mamasara You can look up food co-ops in google for your area out here in CA we have a number to choose from We use the Davis Co-op here
13:55:12 ourwiefamily hello ... can I get in on the last 30 seconds of the chat?  :)
13:55:13 mamasara Not all are organic and if the farm is not organic you can usually save some $ there too
13:55:24 mamasara LOL of course Karla...
13:55:41 txchipsie Is this the momma of the herd?  PLEASE join in!  LOL
13:55:47 mamasara We're just chatting on ways to save money as she is about to stop her online business
13:56:02 mamasara It is she. (I've been talking about ya)
13:56:08 ourwiefamily lol
13:56:17 txchipsie (good stuff, swear!)
13:56:31 ourwiefamily ahhhh
13:56:32 mamasara karla, do you do a co-op for produce?
13:56:35 ourwiefamily nope
13:56:41 ourwiefamily I've done so in the past though
13:56:51 mamasara did you find it saved you $$ ?
13:57:03 ourwiefamily At this current point in time we are on food stamps ... a gloriously huge amount, so we buy at grocery store
13:57:25 mamasara oh yeah forgot about that.
13:57:26 ourwiefamily Hmmmm .... well, it was organic and it was cheaper than buying organic in stores.  More expensive than non organic
13:58:01 mamasara I do have a list of resources to investigate this just not handy right now. Google for your area and it should bring something up.
13:58:11 ourwiefamily my sister sent me an interesting site that I've glanced at though not had a lot of time to look through.  Seems like a good resource for saving money
13:58:26 mamasara what is it?
13:58:43 ourwiefamily www.hillbillyhousewife.com
13:58:49 ourwiefamily better make sure i got it right ;)
13:59:04 ourwiefamily yep ... it clicks through
13:59:15 mamasara Currently we are utilizing Schwans Delivery as we don't have a vehicle It helps us buy meat and stuff and easy prep dinners for the boys
13:59:24 mamasara That is an awesome site
13:59:34 ourwiefamily she has a pattern for making cloth pads that I've looked at but haven't looked at food stuff much yet
13:59:37 mamasara She has some very interesting recipes and (verbage)
14:00:02 mamasara I made a menu with her Lunch Sandwich/Soups incorporated
14:00:17 txchipsie Doesn't Schwans get expensive??
14:00:31 mamasara http://www.budgeting101.com has a menu plan that feeds 4 on $30/week
14:01:07 txchipsie that link didn't work...
14:01:21 mamasara We have about $400/month to spend on groceries and we buy wisely (chicken and maybe some frozen veggies and then walk to the grocery for milk and such) We utilize their bread dough for food
14:01:32 ourwiefamily we are going to be looking hard for a place to buy a quarter of a cow from ... that has been a huge money saver in the past
14:01:41 mamasara maybe http://www.budget101.com
14:01:55 txchipsie that worked.  thanks
14:02:29 mamasara Lots of mixes to make as well (like the do it yourself gourmet to go mixes)
